Are all sonic toothbrushes created equally?

First of all, one needs to understand that is meant by the word “sonic” and how it differs from just “electrical” toothbrush. The only difference between the two is that typical electric toothbrush vibrate at speeds of around 7,000 to 10,000 time per minute. Sonic toothbrush vibrate around 30,000 times a minute. So, the only difference between the two technologies is brush head movement speed.

Once you appreciate this difference (also see Wikipedia under “electric toothbrushes”), the rest are features: weight, size, shape, ease of replacing brush heads, amplitude of the brush head movement (the bigger the distance that the brush head travels, either up and down or round and round the more aggressive the brush feels), ease of charging, travel case, warranty and history of breakdowns, quality of components, prices……

Among those aspects include:
1) vibration frequency
2) ergonomic design
3) warranty
4) material used
5) battery powered or electric powered
6) bristle design
7) brush head (replaceable or not)
8) single / multi function
